Szent András Brewery and the respect of traditions has the same definition in dictionaries, but creation of traditions and experiments also play at least such a significant role in Békésszentandrás. The Békésszentandrás beer manufacture and the beer-loving public can not only test new flavours every two weeks or months, but they also can shape the offer range together now. Another proof of this is the newly appearing Belgian wheat beer, the ‘Bodzás Búza’ (Elderflower Wheat), born in the TestAndras experimental beers project, and which has now been added to the brewery's permanent sorts by the public’s request.

Szent András Brewery has always had a direct relationship with the consumers. The aim of the experimental lab named ‘TesztAndrás’ (TestAndras) launched this year was not only to get experience with the new ingredients, but also to rethink a beer, to realize the dreams of brewers and to assess the needs and opinions of the consumers. Beer lovers can share their thoughts in FB group ‘TestAndras Club’ created for this purpose, with which they can also shape the constant assortment of the brewery. So did this happen with the ‘Delta.13 TestAndras’ beer, which was added to the permanent offer range of the Békésszentandrás-based small-scale factory under the name ‘Bodzás Búza’ in the wake of the positive feedback.

The Belgian wheat beer ‘Bodzás Búza’ (unfiltered Belgian wheat beer/witbier, 4.4% v/v) contains elderberry concentrate reduced six times from fresh elderberry including 45% real elderflower. However, the fruity aromas do not suppress the taste of the coriander, the orange peel and Belgian yeast flavours of the wheat beer, rather do they add something more to the final palate. A moderately malted, light summer drink for those looking for a really special wheat beer or a refreshment with the taste of the elder.

‘Bodzás Wheat’ possesses everything it needs to be a hit beer of the summer, but in the experimental lab of Szent András Brewery, several remarkable small batch-series, limited-edition beers have also been made. Over the last two months, six more experimental beers have been unveiled and it’s only July. The brewery was the first in Hungary to cook a double Belgian wheat (dubbelwit), an experiment with apricot-basil New England IPA, but they also dreamed a bergamot orange earl grey porter with cold-tea, not to mention the Brut IPA citing the sparkling bubbles of champaign and grape, made with New-Zealand hop.

It’s especially important for the small-scale brewery in Békésszentandrás to be in constant contact with beer lovers and Szent András’ fans through the TestAndras project, so members of the Facebook group ‘TestAndras Club’ can get information about the latest beers first-hand and take part in prize draws. In addition, the brewery will also have more benefits and privileges for group members in the near future.
