First Hungarian gold and silver medalist at the World Beer Idol

The jury of the Czech beer contest featured prestigious beer critics, independent brewer masters, journalists and professional lecturers. It was the first time at the competition that a Hungarian beer won golden and silver prizes. Moreover, there was only one award-winning fruit beer from this year’s international selection: the Cherry Beer by Szent András brewery. The international beer contest World Beer Idol was held for the second time this year in Slany, the Czech Republic. Applications with beer types Ale, Lager, Stout & Porter, Wheat Beer, Sour Beer, Fruit, Flavoured and Smoked Beers were accepted from all around the world. The award winners included products by Ukrainian, Spanish, Czech, Icelandic, German, Italia, Slovenian and Canadian breweries. In the international field of applicants of high reputation players, only two Hungarian beers won prizes: the Cherry Beer by Szent András Brewery, and the smoked beer by KESER, the Szalonka. Out of the hundreds of applicants at the competition, 7 beers won gold, 11 beers received silver and 19 brews won bronze awards. The jury awarded the Russian Imperial Stout by Spain’s brewery Arraica with diamond prize.
