First Hungarian Lager beer to win prize at Czech World Beer Idol contest

Szent András Brewery was the only one from Hungary to win prizes at one of Europe's most prestigious professional beer contest, the annual World Beer Idol held in the Czech Republic. The three bronze medal went to the brewery's Imperial Pilsner 'Monarchista', the real fruit beer 'Raspberry Wheat' and the limited Christmas edition 'Esthajnal ’17'. Szent András Brewery won the prizes among competitors like Czech Svijany, Belgic Huyghe Brewery or Germany's Schwarzbräu.

The jury of the contest in the Czech Republic consisted of prestigious beer critics from all around the world, independent brewer masters, journalists and professional trainers. The biggest success is linked to Monarchista, as it was the first time in the history of the competition that a Hungarian lager beer won bronze prize at World Beer Idol. Following the Raspberry Wheat's success winning people's choice award last year (The Beer of The Country), and its good results at the country's large beer test, it has now contributed to Hungarian beer success with the bronze prize in the international scheme. So did one of the most exciting Christmas brews Esthajnal ’17 made with Earl grey tea.

The international beer contest World Beer Idol was held the third time this year in Slany, the Czech Republic. The contestants entered the competition in more than 60 sub-types, including ale, lager, stout&porter, wheat beer, sour beer, fruity, flavoured and smoked beer categories. This year's competition received applications from nearly 50 breweries from 17 countries. The winners included French, Belgic, Germany, Norwegian, Spanish, Czech and Danish breweries. The jury handed out 10 golden prizes, 13 silver and 28 bronze prizes among the more than 200 competitors. The sole diamond prize winner of World Beer Idol was Huyghe Brewery's strong ale, the Delirium Tremens.
